After completing her specialist training in 1999, Professor Nicole Eter worked as a senior physician in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital in Bonn, Germany. She obtained her habilitation in 2002 and became Professor of Ophthalmology in 2007. In 2010, Professor Eter was appointed Department Chair and Medical Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Münster. Her core competence lies in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina, besides covering the entire range of ophthalmic surgical procedures.
She was President of the German Society of Ophthalmology 2017/2018 and is currently Chair of the Association of Ophthalmological Chairholders. Her research focuses on age-related macular degeneration, anti-angiogenic therapies, molecular imaging and nanotechnology in ophthalmology. In 2018, she founded the German Register for Health Care Research in Ophthalmology (OREGIS). Professor Eter serves as a member of a number of Editorial Boards and as a reviewer for several scientific journals, and has written more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 6 book chapters. She has also given more than 800 scientific presentations.
