Professor Anat Loewenstein is Professor of Ophthalmology, Incumbent of The Sydney A. Fox Chair in Ophthalmology and Vice Dean of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, and Director of the Department of Ophthalmology, Tel Aviv Medical Center in Tel Aviv, Israel.
After medical studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Tel Aviv Medical Center, Professor Loewenstein completed a fellowship in retinal vascular diseases and vitreoretina surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.
Professor Loewenstein's main areas of expertise including age-related macular degeneration, specifically early detection and treatment modalities, retinal vascular occlusions, and investigation of drug toxicity in the retina. She has also been the leader behind the development of model technology for early detection of macular degeneration. Professor Loewenstein has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and ophthalmology textbooks, and as well as being member of several national and international ophthalmological societies, Professor Loewenstein participates in numerous national and international meetings each year, frequently as an invited speaker.
