Aim

To increase the provision of eye screening, cataract services, spectacles and medicines among the minority population in District Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

The project

Minority populations in District Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan include Hindus, Sikhs and Christians. Minorities are an integral part of the population, but are subject to disharmony and security unrest. Therefore, union councils encourage the population to seek eye care services locally to feel safe.

This project therefore aims to set up local screening camps in minority-populated areas, to screen over 25,000 patients for refractive errors and ocular conditions such as cataracts. Camps will facilitate the treatment of minor ailments and will provide free medicines and spectacles. The initiative will further provide quality cataract surgery through the procurement of equipment for phacoemulsification cataract surgery.

The proposed initiative will become a part of an already sustainable project, TEC Buner, established with the support of SEVA Foundation USA.
